Scott McDonald @ Sports Career Accelerator (Atlanta, GA)
September 13-14, 2018
E-mail from Scott (2018, MS in Sport Management, pictured on far right) (September 24, 2018) - I was fortunate enough to attend the Sports Career Accelerator event in Atlanta presented by WorkInSports.com. Most of us have been to or seen the networking/job fair type events where you stand in a queue with hundreds of people, and you might be fortunate if you get more than 2-3 minutes with someone from an organization before you get shuffled off. This was so much more than that.
The event was limited to 40 people, which made the experience much more intimate. We were able to get behind the scenes tours of the College Football Hall of Fame, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Suntrust Park, and Atlanta United’s training facility. In addition to all of this, we met with executives from Georgia Tech, the Alliance of American Football, Braves, Falcons, and Atlanta United, among others, all of whom offered advice and insight into breaking into the sports industry, and did Q&A sessions with all of us. Overall, it was an amazing experience and one that was invaluable.
The cost on the surface may be a bit more expensive than the standard job fair admission price, but the experiences and connections I made were worth the price alone, and was really an investment in myself and my future. If you are serious about getting into the sports industry, check out the Work In Sports podcast, join the private Facebook group, and attend events they put on. Brian and his team do a phenomenal job.
