Taylor Green Attended the 2018 Baseball Winter Meetings (Las Vegas, NV)

December 9-13, 2018

Taylor Green, current MS in Sport Management student, was afforded the opportunity to attend this year’s Baseball Winter Meetings in Las Vegas from December 9th-13th due to her participation in the 2018 MiLB FIELD Program. For them, the Winter Meetings started with a welcome reception featuring MiLB President and CEO, Pat O’Conner as well as other industry professionals.

On Sunday, they attended the Business of Baseball Workshop Series and had a first glimpse at the Professional Baseball Employment Opportunities (PBEO) Job Fair. Part of the Workshop Series included a networking roundtable in which Taylor met Tyrone Brooks, Senior Director, Front Office and Field Staff Diversity Pipeline Program for MLB. Sunday concluded with a banquet featuring “the most adorable 7 year old.”

Taylor aspires to work in diversity and inclusion in sport, so one of the highlights of the Winter Meetings for her was volunteering for and attending Moving Diversity Forward. This brought sport industry professionals and D&I practitioners together on how baseball can best strategize for 2019.

She also volunteered with MLB for their Supplier Diversity Summit on Tuesday. Through this, she met Ashley Manzueta, Phylicia McCorkle, and Corey Smith of the MLB D&I team. She managed to get a swag bag and an invitation to a reception that night. Taylor followed up with each of them and has a scheduled talk with Phylicia upon her return. “My primary goal was to connect with as many D&I professionals as possible and I did! I am so fortunate to represent UF and the FIELD Program and I can’t wait to watch us grow!”
